Mercantile License Application Process in the City of Margate

Welcome to the City of Margate's Mercantile License Application Process! We are delighted to guide you through the necessary steps to obtain a Mercantile License for your proposed business. It is important to note that this is a general guide, and your application may require additional information.

Step 1: Complete the Mercantile License Application.

Begin by filling out the Mercantile License Application provided. You can submit the completed form to the City Clerk, Johanna Casey. For any inquiries or assistance, contact Johanna Casey at 609-822-2605 Ext. 103 or via email at casey_johanna@margate-nj.com.

Step 2: Obtain Staff Committee Approval.

Submit the Application for Staff Committee Review to the Planning Board Administrator, Palma Shiles. Include a detailed narrative description of your proposal, a copy of the deed/lease agreement, one set of plans/survey (if applicable), and the $25.00 application fee payable to the City of Margate.

Step 3: Secure a Certificate of Continued Occupancy (CCO).

Upon approval from the Staff Committee, proceed to submit the CCO Application to the Building Department along with the $151.00 application fee payable to the City of Margate. The Building Department will then coordinate the necessary building, electrical, fire, and plumbing inspections.

Step 4: Obtain Permits and Final Approval (if applicable).

If your business location requires any work, construction, or structural modifications, building permits are mandatory. Ensure all permits and final inspections are successfully completed.

Step 5: Obtain Fire Official Approval.

Notify the Building Department when you are ready for the final inspection and approval from the Fire Official.

Upon successful completion of all requirements, the City Clerk will issue your Mercantile License.
