  1. What time are businesses allowed to operate until? 
    Businesses should operate as per Governor Guidlines under the Executive Orders 
  2. Are Margate City Municipal facilities open? 

    The City of Margate’s Municipal Building is open to the public to conduct business. The adjusted hours for the Municipal Building will be Monday thru Friday, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The building is to be open for business matters. All business is to be conducted in the multi-purpose room, accessing the entrance Door #2 located on Winchester Avenue. Payments for taxes, water and sewer can/will still be accepted at the lockbox at the main building entrance. Please note that persons visiting Margate’s Municipal Building must log in at the entrance and must wear a face covering.

  3. Are Margate City’s Municipal Meetings still being held? 

    In accordance with N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 (the Open Public Meetings Act) and in accordance with Governor Murphy’s issuance of Executive Order No. 107,  the Board of Commissioners of the City of Margate will conduct the Regular Commission Meeting on July 16, 2020 at 4 P.M. in the Margate Commission Chambers at 1 S. Wahington Avenue.  Due to the limited seating capcity and because of Social Distancing Regulations, interested parties can listen and participate via a telephonic conference call-in connection.

    Members of the public will be able to join the meeting which will include a period for public comment by calling 1-571-317-3122 and use access code 341-171-237.

  4. Is the Margate City Municipal Court open? 
    Municipal Court sessions have resumed virtually until further notice. If you have a pending court date or any questions, the court personnel are available by calling 609-822-1998 or via email by addressing questions to larkin_maureen@margate-nj.com.
  5. Are Margate City emergency services available? 
    Police, Fire and EMS service will continue as usual.
  6. Is the Margate City Public Library Open? 
    The Margate Library is open Monday- Saturday 10 am- 4pm. Social distancing and face masks are required.
  7. Is the Margate City Senior Citizen Pavilion open to the public? 
    The Margate City Senior Citizen Pavilion will be closed until further notice.
  8. Are Senior Bus Services available? 

    On Sept 8th, the shuttle service restarted to transport the Margate seniors. Our Staff has instituted   Covid 19 daily cleaning procedures.  Social distancing and masks are required.The Margate City Shuttle Bus serves Margate seniors 65+ and residents with disabilities. The destinations to Margate, Ventnor and Longport includes local stores, doctors’ appointments, and recreation facilities.  There is a monthly schedule that includes all our local trips as well as Shop-Rite, Walmart and Boscov’s.The Margate Shuttle has received excellent ratings from NJ Transit and continues to be a vital part of the Margate senior center.

  9. Is the Margate City Public Works Department available? 
    The Public Works Department is available Monday to Friday by calling 609-822-5038.  All water/sewer emergencies should be reported to the Police Department at 609-822-1151.
  10. Will there be changes to the Trash and Recycle schedule? 
    Trash and Recycle will be on normal schedules.  For further information check with the ACUA at (609) 272-6950 or their website http://www.acua.com/.
  11. Is the Margate City Municipal Yard open? 
    The Municipal Yard is open for residents to drop off Trash/Recycle/Yard Waste on Wednesday 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 6 p.m. Vegetative waste is being picked up on the normal schedule.
  12. Will short-term Rental housing inspections continue? 
    Yes. Short-term rental housing inspections will resume May 11, 2020
  13. Are yearly Rental and Land Use/Resale applications still being accepted? 
    Yes. Yearly rentals and land use applications are being processed.
  14. When is the Community Shredding Event?      Margate City’s Annual Shred Event is scheduled for Saturday, November 14 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Margate City Public Works Yard located at 101 N. Benson Ave in Margate. This Shred Event is open to residents of Margate and Longport only with proof of residency. Shredding will be done by Shred-It and any questions and info pertaining to specific materials allowed are available at Shred-it.com. For any additional questions or concerns, please contact Anthony Edge at MCPW, 609-822-5038. This event will take place outside and social distancing rules, such as masks, are mandatory.                
  15. Will the Margate City Fire Department continue providing smoke detectors for the Smoke Detector Program? 
    The Fire Department will still provide smoke detectors to residents but installation by department personnel is suspended during the COVID emergency.
  16. Will the Margate City Fire Department be conducting routine incident inspections? 
    The Margate Fire Department is limiting the number of personnel responding and entering a residence for scheduled routine inspections and investigations for precautionary health reasons for both residents and fire personnel.

  21. Why is construction permitted to continue in Margate?

    The State of New Jersey specifically requires municipal code enforcement offices to remain open. However, only essential permits are being processed in Margate.
    Most ongoing construction is allowed to continue with certain restrictions pertaining to social distancing and other safety regulations. Inspections are continuing for this ongoing construction.
    Some of the new regulations include: 
    1. A requirement for face coverings and personal protective equipment.
    2. A site safety representative must be onsite.
    3. A site safety plan is required.
    4. Physical distancing must be maintained to the extent feasible.
    5. Daily cleaning of key elements of the construction site including tools and equipment.

  22. Is there a ban on short term rentals?

    Effective May 11, 2020, the City of Margate Building Department will resume accepting seasonal and short-term rental applications with leases beginning on or after May 15.  Governor Murphy has allowed municipalities to impose restrictions on the ability of hotels, motels, guest houses or private residences to accept transient guests or seasonal tenants and Margate opted to impose restrictions on these rentals pursuant to this directive until May 15.   23. Is there a website to check on rumors and disinformation?
    Yes. In a joint effort to combat rumors, various state agencies including the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management and New Jersey of State Police have activated a website https//www.njhomelandsecurity.gov/covid19.
