Flood Warnings

About the City of Margate Emergency Alert System

Margate City also depends on the National Weather Service (NWS) for flood threat recognition, and is it also well serviced by the Atlantic County Office of Emergency Preparedness.

Local radio and television stations routinely broadcast flood threat advisories issued  by the NWS.  The National Weather Service (NWS)  issues flood advisories for our area when expected rainfall may overflow drainage systems and cause isolation of structures due to the potential of ponding flood waters.  Local radio (WFPG-AM 1450, WMID-AM 1340, WONDAM 1400), televition stations,  weather radio, and police vehicles equipped with public address systems routinely broadcast flood threat advisories issued  by the NWS.

In addition, Atlantic County has developed  a “Disaster Response Team” (DRT) to help us manage large scale emergency operations as well as prepare community members to take care of themselves in the event of a disaster. The DRT includes the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) County Animal Response Team (CART) the Medical Needs Team (MNS) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). These programs help coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. They provide opportunities for people to participate in a range of measures to make their families, their homes, and their communities safer from the threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters of all kinds.

The ORDER TO EVACUATE is given only when the best efforts of local and county Emergency Coordinators have evaluated the projections of storm headings and all other storm related information. All persons with disabilities, invalids, and those who cannot care for themselves should contact the City at (609) 822-1151. This list is kept in confidence, however, it is your responsibility to update or change this information.
